Less of Me, More of Them…in Zoom

After updating everyone on how my district is approaching instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic, we explore the notion of students’ reluctance to use their cameras during Zoom sessions.

We briefly explore what “presence” means in the classroom and how that can translate to a live online session. To help navigate through this, we can learn from Gary Stager’s advice on teachers’ role in meaningful learning, “Less Us, More Them”.

How can we make our live sessions “a better use of everyone’s time”? I relate my experience with transforming my live sessions where it was more about ME as the teacher to those where it is all about the STUDENT.

Interview with Philip Pulley – Part 1

I interviewed a guest this week!  His name is Dr. Philip Pulley. He is an educator in Illinois who has had a flipped classroom for many years. He penned the blog post called, “What I’m Calling This…Educational Triage” where he describes his assessment of the way educators faced continuing to work with their students during the COVID-19 closures in March, April, May and June of this past school year.

This is the first part of the interview where we discuss the term, “Triage Learning”.  We discuss the issues of equity and teacher training at length.

Afterward, I discuss a recent article: CoSN2020: Seeing the Bigger Picture of Digital Equity article
